Biography

Christian Chamoun was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1986 and lived his early life between there and California. He came to the Netherlands to study classical composition at Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2008 where he received composition lessons from Richard Ayres, Wim Hendrickx, and Willem Jeths and graduated with a Masters’ degree in 2015.

He has also collaborated for theatre productions with directors Liliane Brakema (Mon Amour, Fraslab 2015) and Zarah Bracht (Worlds Away, 2014). In addition to his work as a composer, Christian is also a frequent ensemble singer and guest actor with the Dutch National Opera Academy, where he has performed with numerous directors (e.g. Floris Visser, Lotte de Beer, Robert Chevara, Sybrand van der Werf) and conductors (e.g. Antony Hermus, Kenneth Montgomery, Richard Egarr).

His music has been featured in the Holland International Piano Series (performed by Steven Kovacevich et al.), the Dutch Classical Talent Series, and the Gaudeamus Music Festival among others. His most recent commissioned work, Solitary Thinker, was premiered by singers of Het Nederlands Kamerkoor at the end of September.
