About Instinct
Instinct or innate behaviour is the inherent inclination of a living organism towards a particular complex behaviour. The simplest example of an instinctive behaviour is a fixed action pattern (FAP), in which a very short to medium length sequence of actions, without variation, are carried out in response to a clearly defined stimulus.
The INSTINCT project is a dance project of Iris van Peppen about instinctive movement.
In the summer of 2015, Iris started her physical research for creating a dance performance: both on site and in a theater setting. The dancers that are performing are Makiko Ito, Kim Hoogterp and Aida Guirro Salidas.
Usage of somatic principles
For the research Iris will be using somatic based principles like the releasing of the head and neck and moving from it, using arterial flow (blood circulation) and spinal movement in order to stretch ones physical boundaries so that the dancers can open up to another (sub)conscious.
Iris is curious how the dancers will use their senses to perceive their dancing and space. Check the short trailer
